Watch List Weekly – Talking Enphase, Signet, Etc, Etc.
Plus some housekeeping, what you missed (HIMS, ERIE), the updated Red Flag Alerts list and more...
(This friendly reminder: My Red Flag Alerts and selected On the Street content are no longer free. But while the paint is still drying on my paywall, my introductory price remains. I will be raising prices. Here’s more on my decision to go paid, and what to expect from my Red Flag Alerts.)
Another jam-packed week…
First, disappearing act. Some housekeeping…
Second, in case you missed it. Don’t miss my latest on Centrus LEU 0.00%↑, Hims & Hers HIMS 0.00%↑, Erie Indemnity ERIE 0.00%↑and “Nuclear Gone Wild” with a special focus on Sam Altman’s Oklo. OKLO 0.00%↑.
Third, it seems reality is starting to hit for Enphase. The thesis laid out here months ago appears to finally be playing out.
Fourth, why Signet bears watching. My friends at Behind the Numbers shared something they spotted after going through the retail jeweler’s 10-Q.
Fifth, the full Red Flag Alerts List. All but one fell!
And now, on with the show…
Weekly Scattershot
1. Disappearing Act
Before we get going – a big welcome and thank you to all new paid subscribers to On the Street.
This bit of housekeeping…
I’m headed out late Monday for three weeks to parts unknown. (Okay, Madrid and Morocco, to name a few.) TMI: Forty-fifth wedding anniversary. At some point after we return, Mary will share the entire trip on her travel blog, The Modern Postcard. If you like global travel, and enjoy travel essays, be sure to check it out. She’s an elegant writer. (I’m not just saying that to guarantee we make it to 46!)
As I lay out in my FAQs, which I hope you’ve had a chance to read, you will see that I commit to writing an average of 46 weeks, which allows for vacations, holidays and for life getting in the way. That said, I’m wired to write and may do so during this trip. (Cue, Mary: eye-roll.) I do have a few free pieces I will be running, including one about what I’ve learned from my investment mistakes, plus a re-runs of some favorites.
Also, apologies to anybody who tried to access On the Street on Thursday and couldn’t. Blame it on stupid human tricks by this stupid human, while trying to correct a DNS issue. In the process, I wound up using Substack technical support, which is a bot. To my surprise, the bot actually was faster and possibly better than a human. In the end, though, I did require human support to seal the deal.
2. If You Missed It…
My latest…
Earlier today I published “Atomic Frenzy, with a focus on Centrus.
Lotsa drama in the bull/bear tug-o-war over Hims & Hers. Things are getting outta control, I tell ya – OUTTA CONTROL!
This special pre-Halloween angle on Erie Indemnity, the unlikeliest of unlikely additions to the S&P 500.
Nuclear has definitely gone wild, with a sudden surge in small modular reactor companies… likely too much, too soon and for these, maybe, if ever.
Finally, for fun – 11 years ago I named Mike Jeffries, then of Abercrombie & Fitch ANF 0.00%↑, as worst CEO of the year. Now he’s in the running for an even bigger title.
3. Enphase Playing Out
Reality is starting to catch up with Enphase ENPH 0.00%↑, which announced disappointing results last week.
